I agree with you on the importance of developmental aspects of such project but the point of concern as pointed out by many is where its needed. for instance seeing the Delhi example it might surprise us that despite being the national capital there's water problem, sewage problems, slum problems in many areas. Further the impact on surrounding cities which will in turn be subjected to such scarcity as the people will start moving. These examples are necessary but the main theme is to get decentralized development of infra, as one way or other everything is related. Other example includes the importance of metro. Is it necessary everywhere? there are few cities where if BRTS, MRTS etc. are given due importance can well take care of need, but we are sort of blind, same solution for all problem. No its not sustainable, we in lust of building world class infra are forgetting the need for such development & sustainability. One may argue that it will increase govt. revenue who in turn will put it into development of the poor's, but thats also quite illusive.
